THE LOIS AND SAMUEL SILBERMAN FUND
Samuel Silberman believed that social work, integral to increasing and maintaining the health and welfare of individuals, families and communities, had a long history of meeting the challenges of an ever-changing world. He, and his widow Lois, began supporting the field in the 1960s, establishing both the first public graduate school of social work in New York and a charitable fund that makes grants to help practitioners create and develop new approaches in a culturally diverse city.
The
Silberman Fund Faculty Grant Program reflects the Silbermans' view that the quality of social work practice is largely dependent on the knowledge and skills acquired in graduate schools of social work, and through the research of their faculties.
